Western European Art
The most part of wonderful works of Western European Art entered the
Art Gallery from the country estates of the count P.S.Stroganov
(1823-1911) and the well-known scientist B.N.Tchicherin
(1828-1904).
The character and structure of the Western European Art collection
point to a considerable extent at the individual taste of its former owners.
The large sections of the collection are dedicated to Italian art of the
16th - 19th centuries and Netherlands, Flemish and Dutch art of the
16th - 17th centuries as well.
The earliest pieces of Italian art from the Tambov Art Gallery
belong to the 16th century. In the 1530s there sprang up in Florence
a movement known as Mannerism, which marked a departure from the humanistic
traditions of the Renaissance art. The Florentine school at that period
of time is represented in the Gallery with two portraits.
Works of art from the Gallery were exhibited in Moscow,
St.Petersburg
and abroad (Netherland, England, Finland). The Tambov Art Gallery
is proud to have works by such prominent artists as Jan van Scorel,
Francesco Montemezzano, Pieter Nason, Antonio Zanchi,
Michiel Mierevelt and others.
