  • Dolgunin V.N., Borshchov V.Ya., Ivanov P.A. The Research on Rapid Gravity Flows of Particulate Solids // Scientific article. Journal "Transactions of the TSTU", vol. 10 , Tambov. TSTU publisher house , 2004. (pdf-file)
Abstract: An experimental method of the uncontact investigation of concentration profiles during rapid gravity flow of particulate solids is suggested. The method supposes the simultaneous X-ray examination of both particulate solids distribution in the flow and control samples, having certain concentrations of particles, by means of the use of the common X-ray radiogram. The method developed was used to investigate the concentration profiles in the course of rapid gravity flows of spherical ceramic particles on a rough chute. The accuracy of the earlier developed experimental and analytical method supposing the formal analogy between the granular medium under rapid shear and dense gas is checked up by the X-ray method.
  • Dolgunin V.N., Kudy A.N., Yushkova O.B., Ananyev A.N. Some Ways to Control Segregation and Mixing in Gravity Flows of Particulate Solids // Scientific article. Journal "Transactions of the TSTU", vol. 10 , Tambov. TSTU publisher house , 2004. (pdf-file)
Abstract: Experimental and analytical investigation of segregation in particulate media at various conditions of a gravity flow are carried out in this paper. Basic segregation effects for the particles differing on size and density and parameters of rapid shear flows flow to control the segregation are explored. The most effective methods to control the segregation in gravity flows of particulate solids are suggested.
  • Huang Lixin, K. Kumar, Arun S. Mujumdar Simulation of Spray Evaporation Using Pressure and Ultrasonic Atomizer – a Comparative Analysis // Scientific article. Journal "Transactions of the TSTU", vol. 10 , Tambov. TSTU publisher house , 2004. (pdf-file)
Abstract: Conventional pressure atomization imparts a high initial velocity to the droplets and also produces a wide droplet size distribution. If the jet is broken up with the assistance of ultrasonic energy finer droplets with a much more uniform size distribution can be obtained. Using the correlation of Rajan and Pandit [2001] which accounts for the physical-chemical properties of the liquid as well as the ultrasonic properties of the atomizer (amplitude, frequency, area of vibrating surface), a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was carried out to predict the spray evaporation performance in a co-current cylinder-on-cone spray chamber. The results are compared with those for a conventional pressure atomizer. The model predictions were validated by favorable comparison with literature data on velocity and temperature fields in a cylinder-on-cone chamber geometry. Since the ultrasonic nozzle has a low initial droplet velocity and a uniform size distribution, different droplet velocities (0.014, 5.59 and 59.0 m/s) and mean droplet sizes (10.0, 30.0, 50.0, 70.0, 90.0 and 110.0 μm ) are used to simulate spray drying. The advantages and limitations of using ultrasonic atomizer rather than the conventional ones are discussed in the light of the simulation results.
  • Jürgen Tomas Nanoparticle Adhesion and Flow Properties of Cohesive Nanopowders // Scientific article. Journal "Transactions of the TSTU", vol. 10 , Tambov. TSTU publisher house , 2004. (pdf-file)
Abstract: The fundamentals of cohesive powder consolidation and flow behaviour using a reasonable combination of particle and continuum mechanics are explained. By means of the model "stiff particles with soft contacts" the influence of elastic-plastic repulsion in particle contacts is demonstrated. With this as the physical basis, the stationary yield locus, instantaneous yield loci and consolidation loci, flow function, consolidation and compression functions by the flow properties of a very cohesive titania nanopowder (surface diameter ds = 200 nm) are presented. These models are used to evaluate shear cell test results as constitutive functions for computer aided design of process apparatuses for reliable powder flow.
  • Kui Jiao, Xiliang Luo, Wei Sun, Zhenyong Wang Preparation and Properties of the Poly (Neutral Red) Horseradish Peroxidase Enzyme Electrode // Scientific article. Journal "Transactions of the TSTU", vol. 10 , Tambov. TSTU publisher house , 2004. (pdf-file)
Abstract: A new hydrogen peroxide biosensor was constructed by immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in poly (neutral red) (PNR) film. The conditions for the electropolymerization of neutral red at glassy carbon electrode to form the PNR membrane have been carefully studied with orthogonal design. On this basis, HRP was added to the electrolyte, and with the electropolymerization of neutral red, HRP was immobilized in the PNR membrane to construct poly (neutral red) horseradish peroxidase enzyme electrode, which was designed as PNR/HRP. The bioelectrocatalytic reduction of H2O2 at the enzyme electrode was studied. The electrode exhibits an excellent activity to catalyze the reduction of H2O2 in the absence of any electron transfer mediator, and the response current is proportional to H2O2 concentration in the range of 5.0 × 10-5 ~ 1.0 × 10-3 mol/L-1, with the correlation coefficient r = 0.9995 (n = 6). Moreover, the PNR/HRP enzyme electrode can be easily fabricated, and its reproducibility and lifetime are perfect. So the sensor can be used for the conventional detection of H2O2.
  • Marzouk Benali The Gas-Solid-Solid Packed Contactor: Mechanistic And Macroscopic Analysis of the Interactive Forces // Scientific article. Journal "Transactions of the TSTU", vol. 10 , Tambov. TSTU publisher house , 2004. (pdf-file)
Abstract: Interactive forces between the three phases (gas, fine particles, and coarse and dense particles) govern the direct contact mechanism that occurs in the Gas-Solid-Solid Packed Contactor (GSSPC). Using continuity and momentum equations, these interactive forces are derived as functions of the overall pressure drop, the average dynamic hold up of solids, and the physical properties of solids, gas and a regular packing. Particle-packing walls collision model has been proposed to interpret the occurrence and physical origin of these interactive forces, to quantify them, and to predict the overall pressure drop in the three phases system.
  • Tadeusz Kudra An Integrated Approach to Drying Technologies // Scientific article. Journal "Transactions of the TSTU", vol. 10 , Tambov. TSTU publisher house , 2004. (pdf-file)
Abstract: The "onion model" approach is proposed to optimize drying and associated processes that form an integrated drying system. The approach consists of optimizing the dryer as the core of the system and then extending the optimization for the shell comprising both downstream and upstream operations. Application of pinch technology to drying is presented, and illustrated by the case study on optimization of the dryer with heat pumping by mechanical vapor recompression.

Abstract: This work aimed at investigating the fluid dynamics of the conventional spouted bed during a coating process, using several inert particles such as polystyrene, polypropylene, polyethylene of low density, ABS®, placebo tablets and glass beads, analyzing the adhesion of the film on the particle and the influence of the physical properties of the particles and of an aqueous polymeric coating suspension on the fluid dynamics.
